Article Citation - WoS: 36Citation - Scopus: 50Determinants of process reengineering and waste management as resource efficiency practices and their impact on production cost performance of Small and Medium Enterprises in the manufacturing sector(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2022-07) Incekara; MustafaThe effect of resource efficiency practices of large enterprises is well-documented; however, very limited research studies have been conducted in this field on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) contributing to the manufacturing sector. This research study identifies how various driving forces differ depending on the type (i.e., process reengineering and waste management) of resource efficiency practices. Moreover, the impact of these practices on production cost is evaluated. For this purpose, we have utilized the secondary data gathered for the Flash Eurobarometer in September 2015 to investigate the determinants of resource efficiency action of 2055 manufacturing SMEs across Europe and the USA. We have employed binary logistic regression to classify the impact of several factors on the extent of resource efficiency activities such as process reengineering and waste management practices and determined how these activities contribute to production cost performance. Our results demonstrate that cost reduction and anticipating future legislation are two of the most significant motivations for implementing process reengineering actions. Moreover, customer demands and competition with rivals are two primary reasons for adopting waste management practices.Article What is the Best Phase of Managing Inter-Firm Relationships in Supply Chains?(2023) İncekara, MustafaThe level of innovation in a product should determine the best stage at which inter-relationship collaboration in a supply chain is engaged in developing new products. Unfortunately, there is a lack of consensus in the relevant literature on the specific stage for inter-relationship collaboration in a supply chain in transformative technologies. For example, the inter-relationship collaboration in a supply chain becomes significant at a later stage of disruptive innovation when the most cutting-edge product or technology must be marketed. On the other hand, inter-relationship collaboration in a supply chain should be included in the innovation process at a much earlier stage to ensure a more comprehensive supplier engagement. Several researchers have examined suppliers' role in product innovations; nevertheless, none of the published supplier integration models are directly connected to the issue of at what point suppliers need to be integrated into the product innovation process. Therefore, this article aims to propose a blueprint for inter-relationship collaboration in a supply chain during product innovation phases, with an emphasis on the stage of involvement applicable to both incremental and disruptive innovation. In addition, various aspects concerning inter-relationship collaboration in a supply chain in the different phases of product invention are subjected to an in-depth investigation.Article The Transformation Process of Turkish Smes in Terms of Digitalization and Sustainability(2023-10-31) İncekara, Mustafa; Kumbalı, Hatice Çoban; Sarikaya, MehtapDigitalization and sustainability are no longer contentious topics in today's world. Digital innovation and ecological actions constantly evolve, affecting a company's strategy, structure, operations, and performance. These developments are particularly important for growing economies such as Türkiye. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are essential to the Turkish economy, providing 72 % of employment. The utilization of digital innovations and sustainability approaches is having an increasingly positive impact on the growth of SMEs in today's business environment. This article focuses on the transformative process of Turkish SMEs toward sustainability and digitalization. The data were from the Flash Eurobarometer 486, which compares the average of 27 EU countries to Türkiye. As a result of the study, it is understood that sustainability and digitalization continue to be underused in Turkish SMEs, primarily due to high investment requirements and a scarcity of financial resources.Article The internet usage rate in Turkey: a machine learning approach(Ege Univ, Fac Economics & Admin Sciences, 2024-03-01) Incekara, Mustafa; Ozturk, CemalMost studies on measuring coverage bias in internet surveys use internet access as a critical measurement variable. However, access to the internet does not mean that individuals are using it. Therefore, using the internet usage rate as a key variable is crucial to get an accurate overview of the internet coverage of a population. This study closes these gaps by using a better indicator for measuring the internet usage rate. It is the first study measuring the internet usage rate in Turkey by using the real internet usage rate of the population and applying a machine learning algorithm. The results exposed significant differences in socio-demographic characteristics when internet users were compared with non-users. Furthermore, the coverage bias associated with internet users remained different for several demographic categories. The results of web-based surveys based on the actual internet usage rate are crucial for the scientific community and marketers.Article Analyzing Resource Efficiency Methods in Turkey: The Impact on Production Cost and Sales Volume(2022-03-29) İncekara, MustafaRapid economic growth along with carelessness related to environmental problems have caused adverse impacts on nature and to civilization as a whole. The effects on nature include temperature changes and increased climactic and environmental disasters. To minimize the negative effects of climate change and reduce future emissions, several governments have announced charges for greenhouse gas emissions. However, these charges present extra operational costs for firms and impact their financial health. This study analyses the impact of offering ecological friendly products and services on the production costs and sales volume of resource-efficient Turkish Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) using data from the Flash Eurobarometer 456. The findings reveal that offering “green” products do not increase the sales volume. However, resource efficiency activities can influence SMEs’ production costs. This result can help practitioners who are looking for opportunities for cost reductions in manufacturing to apply more resource-efficient mechanisms. Article Citation - Scopus: 1The impact of global sourcing in new product development processes(Inderscience Enterprises Ltd, 2022) Incekara; MustafaThis study investigates which product characteristics and sourcing location conditions (global or local) support efficient supplier integration in New Product Development (NPD) processes. A research model is suggested to analyse the relationship between procurement product characteristics, buyer-supplier project organisation and NPD results. Moreover, the moderating impact of the geographical sourcing location on the causal relationships in the model is assessed. Data from 209 research-intensive firms in German-speaking countries were used to test the research hypotheses using structural equation modelling. The findings propose that the complexity and importance of the product procured are crucial to the form of project organisation between the parties. Buyers and suppliers tend to collaborate to a greater extent when the complexity and importance of the procurement object are high. Collaborative project organisation influences the result of NPD, and this relationship is more effective when a local supplier is involved in the process.Article Is It Possible to Apply a Deep Learning Algorithm to Innovation Management Research?(2023-02-01) Tokat, Sezai; Oztürk, Cemal; İncekara, MustafaThis paper aims to apply a deep learning algorithm to estimate the prediction of various external financial input variables on adopting eco-innovation practices such as renewable energy operations of 5456 SMEs. A Long Short-Term Memory Units (LSTM) is applied to the data set to evaluate the performance of different input variables on the adoption of renewable energy. Furthermore, we process the dataset with different machine learning algorithms and compare the results. The findings indicate that LSTM gives the highest performance for all metrics. As a result, some important theoretical implications for management scholars are given.Article Citation - WoS: 1Environmental and social sustainability in SMES: a comparison of European union countries and turkey(Kafkas University Iibf, 2022-12-27) Kumbali, Hatice Coban; Incekara, Mustafa; Sarikaya, MehtapThis study contributes to the literature by analysing the sustainability activities of SMEs and evaluating sustainability with its social dimension, which is often overlooked in previous research. In this paper, data from 28 countries and 11,418 SMEs were analysed. The sustainability practices of Turkey, a candidate country for the European Union, which makes a significant amount of its exports to EU countries, and SMEs operating in 27 European countries have been evaluated comparatively. The most striking result of the research is that Turkey does not lag behind EU countries in terms of environmental and social sustainability, and even comes to the fore in some items. However, SMEs operating in Turkey state that there are more sustainability barriers than SMEs operating in EU countries. The belief that sustainability will not be profitable is found to be the factor that makes the most significant difference with EU countries regarding sustainability barriers.Conference Object Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 3'Grey-Box' and 'Black-Box' supplier-buyer relationship in product innovation under technology and market uncertainty(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018-06) M., IncekaraThe objective of this research study is to examine the effect of external uncertainty and supplier-buyer relationship conditions on supplier involvement in product innovation processes. A research model is proposed to investigate the connection between technology and market uncertainty, supplier-buyer relationships, supplier integration outcomes, and the role of black-box and grey-box integration. Data from high-tech companies were used to analyze the proposed hypotheses through PLS-SEM. The results reveal technology and market uncertainty are significant to supplier-buyer cooperation. Suppliers and buyers tend to work more intensively when technology and market uncertainty is high. Supplier-buyer relationship impacts supplier involvement outcomes, and this collaboration is more effective when black-box integration form is selected in the product innovation process. This research paper contributes to supplier involvement in product innovation literature by unfolding how firms can integrate suppliers under technology and market uncertainty and black-box and grey-box integration under product innovation projects. © 2018 IEEE.
