Article Citation - Scopus: 4Do the Effects of Aggregate and Disaggregate Energy Consumption on Different Environmental Quality Indicators Change in the Transition To Sustainable Development? Evidence From Wavelet Coherence Analysis(Springer, 2023-11-17) E., Yavuz; E., Ergen; T., Avci; F., Akcay; E., KilicIn the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the United Nations (UN) member states in 2015, half of the target period has been exceeded. However, China, whose energy consumption relies heavily on fossil resources, remains at the top of the list of global polluters. Therefore, investigating the environmental impacts of energy types is essential to China’s path towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)-7 and SDG-13. Based on this motivation, the paper offers new insights into the energy-environment literature for China with wavelet coherence analysis (WCA). This approach can investigate the relationship between variables in a periodic manner based on the frequency behavior of the models. The paper separately analyzes the effects of primary energy consumption (PEC), fossil energy consumption (FEC), renewable energy consumption (REC), nuclear energy consumption (NEC), GDP, and population (POP) on three different environmental indicators in China. Using two environmental pollution indicators (carbon emission (CO2) and ecological footprint (EF)) and one environmental quality indicator (load capacity factor (LCF)), the paper allows for comparison and robustness checks on the environmental impacts of energy indicators. Empirical findings reveal the following: (i) Except for REC and POP in the CO2 model, the variables in all three models largely move together during the period under observation; (ii) variables other than POP have consistent coefficient signs; (iii) PEC, FEC, NEC, and GDP increase CO2 and EF while decreasing LCF; (iv) the effect of NEC on LCF is more obvious until 2000; (v) unlike the others, REC affects CO2 and EF negatively and LCF positively; (vi) there is bidirectional causality between PEC and environmental indicators but not for REC; (vii) the causality relations of other variables with environmental indicators differ in terms of model, time, and direction of causality. In light of the findings, the paper highlights that only the REC improves environmental quality in China. Other energy indicators contribute to environmental degradation. China, whose ecological deficit has increased dramatically in recent years, urgently needs to reduce its dependence on fossil energy sources by accelerating investments in REC. Governments should also review nuclear energy policies, which are expected to help achieve carbon neutrality. Master Thesis Stokastik sınır analizi: İstanbul Sanayi Odası’na kayıtlı firmalara yönelik bir uygulama [Master Thesis](Pamukkale Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2016) Avcı, Tahsin; Atalay ÇağlarThe purpose of this study is to measure efficiency of first 500 firms registered for Istanbul Industry Chamber. The measurement of efficiency is aimed for stochastic frontier analysis, a parametric method, introduced by Aigner, Lovell and Schmidt (1977) and Meusen and Van Den Broeck (1977). Istanbul Industry Chamber has operated since 1952 and its essential target is to contribute to Turkey’s highly competitive industry and to help prosper the country. The most prominent industry fountains of Turkey has prepared and shared with public its works for 47 years. Through this 47 period, Istanbul Industry Chamber has prepared reports firstly for 100 firms then 300 firms lastly 500 firms. In the study, two different models were set by 2011- 2014 datas according to corresponding year of Cobb-Douglas (C-D) and Translog production function. Firm based efficiency measurement was carried out by cross sectional datas. Also it was exhausted by branching off sectors according to NACE REV 2 economic operation classification in terms of descriptive statistics of efficiencies. Two different conversion were did owing to negative values in the variables. Despite first conversion carried out gives meaningful results statistically, since it isn't suitable financially a second conversion was carried out. In SFA it is neccesary the datas to be positive. Two different transformation have been carried out to make negative values positive. Although first transformation gives meaningful results statistically, since it isn’t proper financially second transformation was done. Frontier 4.1 computer program introduced by Tim Coelli was used to measure the efficiency. The number of firms differ in the created models due to non disclosure of some firm names in data set shared by Istanbul Industry Chamber through 2011-2014 and inadequate data sharing.Book Part Covid-19 Sürecinde Türk Cumhuriyetlerinin Makroekonomik Performanslarının ENTROPİ Tabanlı TOPSİS Yöntemiyle Analizi(2022) Avcı, Tahsin; Yeşilyayla, Hamid; Durmaz, SerkanArticle Karadeniz Ekonomik İşbirliği Üye Ülkelerine İlişkin Etkinlik Analizi: TOPSIS, ARAS ve MOORA Yöntemleriyle Bir Uygulama(2017) Genç, Ayşe; Avcı, Tahsin; Sevgin, HakanArticle Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 7Asymmetric Relationship Between Load Capacity Factor and Mineral Rents: Evidence From Brazil(Springer Science and Business Media B.V., 2025-05-13) Caglar, Abdullah Emre; Dastan, Muhammet; Avci, Salih Bortecine; Avci, Tahsin; Gokce, NazliIn recent years, transforming green resources and managing existing mineral reserves through sustainable policies have become essential for achieving an environmentally sustainable future. In this regard, countries with high biocapacity and abundant mineral reserves have attracted increasing attention, making the implementation of sustainable strategies a critical agenda. This paper examines how green energy use and mineral resource availability relate to environmental sustainability by employing advanced techniques, including the Fourier approach and artificial intelligence algorithms. The results indicate that positive changes in mineral rents do not significantly influence environmental sustainability, while negative variations are linked to worsened ecological outcomes. Moreover, green energy use contributes positively to environmental quality, whereas urbanization has a detrimental effect. The outcomes of this study underscore the necessity for policymakers to account for the nonlinear dynamics between mineral resource abundance and environmental sustainability when formulating effective policy interventions. In particular, the contribution of mineral resources to advancing clean energy transitions should be acknowledged. Promoting investments in environmentally friendly energy and restructuring urban policies toward green infrastructure and sustainable land use are also vital for strengthening environmental sustainability. © The Author(s) 2025.
