Abstract
Türk heykel sanatının serüveni 1 Ocak 1882 tarihinde resmen kurulan ve müdürlüğüne Osman Hamdi Bey’in atandığı Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi ile başlar.
The Turkish sculpting starts with the official establishing of Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi (School of Fine Arts) in 1 January 1882, to which Osman Hamdi Bey has been appointed as director. The education starts in 3 March 1883 and among the departments which were giving lectures, there were painting, architecture and sculpture. The lenght road which sould be passed on fine arts could easily be envisioned from the number first students who have enroled, approximately 20. This number of the students at the opening, who were mostly the children of the minorty families, increases with the interest of the art loving Turkish families of İstanbul. But this ????uantitative growth hasn’t accelerated in favor of women until the declaration the Republic. Besides the daughters of rich families who can get education from private ateliers; the girsl had to wait until 1914 so they can get fine arts education from a govermental school. With the opening of the İnâs (Kız) Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi (School of Fine Arts for Girls) the talented Turkish girls were able to get fine art education. The first modern Turkish female sculptors such as Rezan Ramiz Hanım, who will have her name known in a short period, Sabiha Ziya (Bengütaş), Melek Ahmed, and Nermin Farukî, have taken their parts among the respected and outstanding names of the fine arts in the duration from Ottoman to the Republic. Studying this premise and important artist of Turkish sculpture in the respect of the new knowledge and documents will be important for our scientific field.
