Abstract: An efficient electrochemical sensor (GO/MgFe4O7-NC/GCE) was developed to simultaneously detect cadmium (Cd2+) and lead (Pb2+) ions using graphene oxide functionalized magnesium ferrite nanocomposite (GO/MgFe4O7-NCC). The green synthesized GO/MgFe4O7-NCC was characterized by advanced analytical techniques, which confirmed its hexagonal structure (average size = 25 nm), semi-spherical surface morphology, and the association of oxygenated functionalities of GO (OH, CO, and COC) with MgFe4O7-NPs. The cyclic voltammetry studied of fabricated GO/MgFe4O7-NCC/GCE was indicating the conductive nature of the electrode, followed by diffusion-controlled behaviour. A wide range of quantitative electrochemical detection of Cd2+ and Pb2+ ions on the surface of GO/MgFe4O7-NCC/GCE was observed under optimized conditions with dynamic range (0.10-900 and 0.20-16600 mu g L-1) and limit of detection of (0.1 mu g L-1 and 0.07 mu g L-1), respectively. The performance of the developed method for Cd2+ and Pb2+ detection was confirmed by the standard addition method with recoveries > 90 % in drinking water and watermelon samples.
