Abstract: The paper assesses the data from the fourth-seventh centuries AD recovered during the excavation and survey campaigns of 2012-2015 at Lydian Tripolis, today located in modern Turkey. The social, political and economic developments during late antiquity are investigated in the case of Tripolis in Lydia; together with the new architectural arrangements starting in the late fourth century, religious architecture steps forth in the fifth and sixth centuries and in parallel to that data regarding Christianity in the urban identity increases as a whole. The religious identity attested in the period’s architecture is reflected in and thus studied through the pottery finds with regards to the daily life. Tripolitan potters transformed the advantages of the city’s location on the pilgrimage route passing through the important centres of the region such as Hierapolis, Laodikeia and Kolossai to economic advantage and pottery became one of the main income items of the city. Tripolis is the only city of the region where the effects of the Sassanian attacks are attested in tangible finds and it is also noted that the population also decreased substantially.
