İhvan-ı Safa risalelerinde nedensellik

Abstract

This study contains thoughts on causality of Ikhwan al-Safa community, who were very important by their encyclopedic epistles in the tenth century when scientific works in Islamic geography peaked. The aim of the study is to scrutinise the causality expressions on epistles written by Ikhwan al-Safa and to associate with the history of philosophy. In this thesis, firstly the concept of causality was explained so that Ikhwan al-Safa’s thoughts on causality were clear and also causality thoughts in philosophy history were placed chronologically. Then the philosophy and philosophy sources of the community were expressed. Lastly causality thoughts on epistles of Ikhwan al-Safa were cited. Clearing the defiled religion with ignorance by philosophy is an aim of the community and their point of view to casuality is wisdom. Ikhwan al-Safa don’t mention any philosophers but Eflatun, they remark their main sources are Ancient Greek philosophers. It is understood from epistles on the concept of causality, they are impressed by Aristotle, Pythagoras and Plotinus. Aristotle’s four reasons, Pythagoras’ thoughts on numbers as arkhe and Plotinus’ emanation theory are explained in epistles of Ikhwan al-Safa. The community sorts existence starting from God as the first reason to others by perfection grade and they submit that there is an imperative causality between existences.

Bu çalışma, ansiklopedi niteliğindeki risaleleriyle İslam coğrafyasında bilimsel çalışmaların doruğa ulaştığı onuncu yüzyılda önemli bir yere sahip olan İhvan-ı Safa topluluğunun nedensellik düşüncelerini içermektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, İhvan-ı Safa’nın yazmış olduğu risalelerdeki nedensellik ifadelerini irdelemek ve felsefe tarihiyle ilişkilendirmektir. Tezde, ilk olarak İhvan-ı Safa’nın nedensellikle ilgili olan ifadelerinin temelini oluşturması için nedensellik kavramı açıklanmış ve felsefe tarihindeki kronolojik olarak nedensellik düşüncelerine yer verilmiştir. Daha sonra topluluğun felsefesi ve felsefi kaynakları belirtilmiştir. Son olarak da İhvan-ı Safa risalelerinde yer alan nedensellik düşünceleri aktarılmıştır. Cehaletle kirlenen dini, felsefe ile temizleme gayretindeki topluluk, nedenselliğe hikmet penceresinden bakar. Eflatun dışında bir isim vermeseler de İhvan-ı Safa, Eski Yunan filozoflarının görüşlerini kaynak olarak aldıklarını belirtir. Risalelerden anlaşılır ki nedensellik konusunda etkilendikleri filozoflar Aristoteles, Pythagoras ve Plotinos’tur. Aristoteles’in dört nedeni, Pythagoras’ın arkhe olarak sayıları ele alması ve Plotinos’un sudur teorisi İhvan-ı Safa risalelerinde açıklanır. Topluluk, ilk neden olan Yaratıcı’dan başlayan, mükemmellikten basitliğe doğru bir varlık sıralaması yapar ve varlıklar arasında zorunlu bir nedensellik olduğunu ileri sürer.
