In this study, “[1,2-phenylenediamine-bis(isonitroso-p-chloroacetophenone)] oxime” was synthesized by using 4'-chloroacetophenone according to literature. The copper-oxime complex was formed by adding required amount of copper (II) nitrate to the oxime and then the complex gave maximum absorbance at 340 nm with a molar absorption coefficient of 0.9 104 L mol-1 cm-1. The spectrophotometric method described in the literature using the oxime was optimized in terms of appropriate pH, stability of the complex, amount of reagent required, linearity and tolerance limits of various foreign ions. The linear range for copper determination is 0.04–1.60 mg L?1. Aqueous solution of vitamin tablets which had been supplied from pharmacy was formed by applying ashing procedure according to literature. The method was applied to ash solution and obtained maximum absorbance value at 340 nm as 0.059, 0.066 and 0.064, respectively. Copper concentration was calculated via absorbance equation and found as 0.9, 1.1 and 1.0 ?g/g, respectively. In this way the accuracy of the method was tested by comparing real and found values of copper amount in pharmaceutical samples. In the study, it was shown that the method could be applied easily according to pharmaceutical samples and even foods and beverages.en_US
