Osmanlı Devleti'nde siyasi evlilikler

Abstract

Tarihi ve sosyolojik bir müessese olan evlilik kadın ve erkeğin bir aile kurmak için hukuki açıdan bir araya gelmesidir. Siyasi evlilik kavramı ise çok farklı anlam taşıyarak ilkçağlardan günümüze devletlerarası politika ve siyasetin önemli bir parçası olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Yapılan bu izdivaçlara bakıldığında da kadının bir aracı olarak kullanıldığını ve devletlerarası ilişkilerde böylece işlevsel bir vasıta olarak kullanıldığı görülmektedir. Tarih boyunca hemen hemen her coğrafya ve toplumda görülen siyasi evlilikler tarihin seyri içerisinde devletlerin siyasi hayatlarını etkilemiştir. Bu devletlerden biri olan Osmanlı Devleti'nde de siyasi evliliklerin uygulandığına şahid olmaktayız. Osmanlı Devleti özellikle kuruluş ve yükselme döneminde siyasi evlilikler yoluyla yerli ve yabancı hanedanlarla akrabalık kurmuştur. Zamanla iç ve dış politikasının vazgeçilmez bir unsuru haline gelen evlilikler müttefik kuvvetler bulma, siyasi nüfuzunu arttırma ve gelecekte olabilecek musibetlerin önlenmesi gibi amaçlara hizmet etmiştir. Osmanlı Devleti bu evlilikler vasıtasıyla diğer toplumları vasallık sistemine dahil etmiştir. Osmanlı Devleti diğer hanedanlarla akrabalık kurduğu gibi güçlü devlet adamlarına kızlarını da vererek akrabalık kurmuştur. Böylece onları hanedana damad yaparak kendi etrafında güçlü devlet adamlarını toplamış oluyordu. Hanedan içerisinde takip edilen bu politika da muntazam bir şekilde uygulanmıştır

Marriage, a historical and sociological institution, is the coupling of a man and woman legally to found a family. However, the term ?political marriage?, meaning differently, has been an important aspect of interstate political life since the early ages. Women are seen to have been used as a mediator and as a functional means in the interstate relations, when such marriages are checked. Seen almost in all geographies and societies throughout the history, the political marriages have influenced the political lives of the states during the history. We witness the application of political marriages also in the Ottoman State among the others. Through the political marriages especially in the foundation and development periods, Ottoman State established kinship with the native and foreign dynasties. The marriages, which became an indispensable element of the internal and foreign policy in time, served the aims in finding allied powers, increasing the political influence, and in avoiding the prospective calamities. The Ottomans included the other societies in the vassal system by such marriages. Besides establishing kinship with other dynasties, the Ottomans did it also by marrying her daughters with the powerful statesmen. By doing so, the Ottoman State gathered the powerful statesmen around itself by making them son-in-low in the dynasty. That policy, followed in the dynasty, was applied strictly, too.
