Abstract: This chapter discusses the major principles of road traffic signal control in Turkey. In Section 8.1, after a brief description of its history, the guidelines used in the country are explained. Information about the number of signalized intersections, major control systems, and market share is also provided. In Section 8.2, signal system installation principles and operating mode selection are summarized. Section 8.3 includes basic principles of signal timing and detailed signal timing procedures. Section 8.4 introduces the signal phasing procedure with some special applications. Signal timing parameter determination, saturation flow, cycle length, green times, and other relevant terms are described in Section 8.5. Section 8.6 deals with special considerations and custom applications, such as leading pedestrian intervals, controlled right turn, and green flash. Finally, Section 8.7 illustrates the timing design process based on a common example. © 2019 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
