Tip 1 diabetes mellituslu adölesanların yaşam deneyimleri, duygu ve algıları: nitel bir çalışma

Abstract

Bu çalışma tip 1 diyabet tanılı adölesanların yaşam deneyimlerini, duygu ve algılarını belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma bir üniversite hastanesinde, tip 1 diyabet tanısı ile takibi yapılan 12-18 yaş grubu, 14 kız ve 5 erkek olmak üzere 19 adölesanı kapsamaktadır. Araştırma fenomolojik tipte niteliksel olarak yapılmıştır. Çalışmada veriler yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılarak derinlemesine görüşme ile toplanmıştır. Adölesan ile görüşmeler görüşmeci tarafından yüzyüze yapılmıştır. Görüşmeler kayıt altına alınmıştır. Görüşmeler en az 15 dakika ile en fazla 45 dakika arasında değişmiştir. Görüşmeden elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Analizler sonucunda deneyim, duygu ve algı olarak 3 tema elde edilmiştir. Adölesanlar diyabetin hiç geçmeyecek ve sürekli dikkat gerektiren bir hastalık olması nedeniyle stres yaşadıklarını, beslenmeye ilişkin kısıtlamaların olması, diyabet nedeniyle sosyal aktivitelerden dışlanmaları gibi nedenlerle hayatlarının olumsuz etkilendiğini ifade etmişlerdir. Adölesanların damgalanma korkusu yaşadıkları ve hastalıklarını gizleme eğilimi gösterdikleri belirlenmiştir. Diyabet hastalığının sağlıklı beslenmeye yol açtığını bu nedenle kendilerini iyi algıladıkları, bazı adölesanların ise kendilerini başkalarından farklı ve kötü algıladıkları saptanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın sonucunda tip 1 diyabet hastalığının adölesanların yaşamlarını birçok yönden etkilediği bulunmuştur. Hemşireler de bu etkilenmeleri ele almalı ve adölesanların duygularını ifade etmelerine yardımcı olmalıdır.

This study was carried out to identify life experiences, emotions and perceptions of the adolescents who were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The study included 19 adolescents including 14 females and males who were between 12-18 years old and whose follow-ups for type 1 diabetes were carried out in a university hospital. It was a qualitative and phenomological study. The data were collected by using a semi-structured interview form during the study; and in-depth interviews were conducted. The interviews with the adolescents were performed as face-to-face by the researcher. Interviews were recorded during the meetings. The durations of the interviews varied between 15 minutes up to 45 minutes. Data regarding the interviews were evaluated by content analysis. At the end of analyses, three themes were obtained including experience, emotion and perception. The adolescents stated that they experienced stress due to the nature of diabetes as a never-ending disease requiring continuous care; and their lives were negatively affected due to the reasons such as having limitations regarding nutrition and exclusion from social activities due to diabetes. It was determined that adolescents experienced a feeling of stigmatization and showed a tendency to hide their diseases. It was also found that diabetic disease caused healthy nutrition; and thus, they perceived theirselves as well. However, it was detected that some adolescents perceived themselves as different and weak from the others. At the end of this study, it was found that type 1 diabetic disease affected the lives of the adolescents from many aspects. Nurses should address these affections and should help them to express their feelings.
