Abstract: For a sustainable life, new strategies have come to the forefront relating to design, production and recycling processes in textiles and apparel manufacturing industries. In this study, woven fabrics consisting of weft threads from recycled cotton fiber, original cotton fiber and original polyester fiber (35%/65% polyester/recycled cotton, 35%/65% polyester/original cotton) were made to order in a textile firm and have been investgated in terms of surface defects and apparel manufacturing efficiency. The types and numbers of defects obtained during inspection were recorded and evaluated by using Pareto analysis. The percentage of surface/fabric defective products in all defects is 78.57% for 35%/65% polyester-recycled cotton fabrics and 69.09% for that in 35%/65% polyester-original cotton fabrics. The percentage of second quality products at the end of apparel manufacturing is 4.9% for recycled cotton fabric products and 2.75% for original cotton fabrics. © 2020 Inst. Nat.
