Abstract: The effect of the motor parameters of the outer rotor model, which is intended to be used in electric vehicles, has not been investigated although many inner-rotor models have been studied in the literature. In this study, therefore, a new outer-rotor line start synchronous motor is designed and the effect of rotor parameters on the motor characteristics is presented. Parameters of the rotor geometry are divided into 5 sub-titles; (i) airgap, (ii) round bar diameter, (iii) round bar distance from airgap (iv) magnet bar distance from airgap, (v) magnet thickness and (vi) magnet height. Also, the effect of the skew angle of rotor core is analyzed with 2D multi-slice FEM technique. The results show that the relationship between parameters is very important in terms of torque and flux density, high efficiency, and less cogging at start-up. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
