Abstract: Objectives: Evaluation of sociodemographics, methods and reasons of suicide attempts were collected from who applied to emergency service during one year period was aimed.
Materials and Methods: Records of suicide attempters between 01.01.2007-01.01.2008 were evaluated retrospectively. Data on social demographics, suicide history, reasons of suicide and suicide method were achieved from emergency forms and psychiatry records.
Results: Total of 745 patients applied with suicide attempt to DSH during study period. 432 (58%) of patients with full records and psychiatric evaluation were admitted to study. 332 (77%) of the patients were female and 100 (23%) were male. Suicide attempts were more frequent between 15-24 years (n=233, 54%). Suicide attempts were more frequent in married females and single males. Both males and females used pills for suicide attempt more frequently and psychiatric problems were the most important suicide reason.
Conclusion: Suicide attempts were more common in females and between 15-24 years and drugs were the most common method shows similarity with studies mentioned in literature.
