Purpose: To evaluate the posterior segment by fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) in Behcet patients with no clinical ocular involvement.,en_US
Methods: criteria of International Study Group for Behet's Disease were included in this study. All cases had a negative history for ocular involvement, and were found to have normal biomicroscopic and fundoscopic (with Goldmann's three-mirror lens) examinations. Intraocular pressures were within normal limits. No patient had any systemic condition other than Behcet's Disease. All cases underwent FFA using Topcon digital image analysis system.en_US
Results: Twentyfive out of 65 eyes (38.5%) had some kind of angiographic abnormalities, and rest (40 eyes, 61.5%) had normal FFAs. Pathological findings include staining of the optic disc in 17 eyes, patchy filling of choroid in 7 eyes, "window defects" due to retinal pigment epithelium atrophy in 5 eyes, and retinal vessel tortuosity in 3 eyes.en_US
Conclusion: We have documented pathological fluorescein angiographic findings in Behcet patients with no clinical ocular involvement. In order to evaluate ocular involvement during the diagnosis of Behcet's Disease, a more objective method, FFA, is needed in conjunction with detailed ophthalmological examination.en_US
