Abstract: The colonization pattern by macroinvertebrates in a stony stream was measured. We placed two groups of bare nylon substrates in two sites of Gökpinar stream in the period December 2003-November 2004. In total we collected 5010 organisms belonging to 29 taxa in the traps and 12579 organisms belonging to 58 taxa in the natural stream bottom. Comparing the F (Flow direction = downstream) and O (Opposite to flow direction = upstream) traps with the C traps we found a significant difference in the number of organisms but not on number of taxa. C traps were the most colonized substrates, both in number of individuals and taxa, than F traps and the O traps. The population outcomes of differences in mobility among taxa are discussed. © 2006 Asian Network for Scientific Information.
