Abstract: In the study, coffee-scented microcapsules in nanosols based on titanium and silicon with various concentrations were deposited to cotton fabrics by pad-dry-cure process. The effect of usage of glycidyloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (GPTMS) and titanium isopropoxide (TIPT) with various concentration on fragrance release properties, antibacterial activity, wrinkle resistance and abrasion resistance properties of cotton fabric samples were investigated. The fragrance release properties of fabric samples were subjectively evaluated after staying under ambient conditions during 60 days. Moreover stiffness and wrinkle resistance before and after washing cycles and abrasion resistance of fabrics coated by sol-gel process. The antibacterial properties of fabric samples were determined by quantitave antibacterial activity test. The presence of film and microcapsules on fabric before and after 10 cycles of domestic washing and 100 cycle abrasion was investigated by FESEM-EDS analysis. Besides chemical and bond nature of coatings on cotton fabric were investigated by FTIR-ATR analysis. During the study, it was found out that nanosol containing GPTMS and TIPT at low concentration caused high fragrance stability during wearing and development of wrinkle resistance and abrasion resistance. Durability of coating and microcapsules on fabric against washing and abrasion cycle was proved by FESEM images. Fabric samples treated with nanosols containing GPTMS and TIPT at low concentration possessed higher antibacterial activity while fabric samples treated with high TIPT concentration exhibited higher antibacterial activity against E.coli and S.aureus after 10 domestic washing cycles. In conclusion, fragrance release properties, abrasion resistance, wrinkle resistance and antibacterial properties of cotton fabric was improved with application of microcapsules by solgel process. © 2021
