While there are already many methods for the design of tunnels, these methods are being improved with technology and experience or new ones are added to the literature. In this study; The quality of rock masses were assessed using Rock Mass Quality Rating (RMQR) along 2540 m long Honaz tunnel excavated in weak rock masses. Support systems were designed considering recommendations from RMQR system and analyzed by finite element method. The obtained results were compared with the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) used in the excavation and support of the tunnel and the deformation values measured in the field. The fact that the equations used in the estimation of rock mass properties give results far from those measured in very weak rock masses indicates that these equations should be reviewed. Although the support element suggestions of the RMQR system can be used, they should continue to be developed with this and similar studies. © IMCET 2022. All rights reserved.en_US
