A multi-element preconcentration procedure for solid phase extraction on Chromosorb 108 as bathocuproinedisulfonic acid chelates and flame atomic absorption spectrometric determinations of some heavy metal ions in environmental samples is proposed in the present work. The influences of analytical parameters including pH of the aqueous solution, amounts of reagents, flow rates of sample and eluent solutions, sample volume etc. on the quantitative recoveries of copper, cadmium, lead, zinc, manganese, iron, chromium, nickel and cobalt ions were investigated. The effects of concomitant ions on the retentions of the analytes were also examined. The presented preconcentration procedure was applied to the determination of metal ions in reference standard materials (NRCC-SLRS 4 Riverine Water, SRM 1515 Apple leaves and GBW 07605 Tea) and some real samples including tap and river water, red wine, rice, black tea and honey. © 2005 Elsevier B.V.
