Abstract: Developments in technology have led to development of not only computer science but also to all other disciplines over time, and new concepts have emerged. One of these concepts is Industry 4.0. It is controlled production processes, cost of production, production quality, etc. digitally by Industry 4.0. In other words, Industry 4.0 is making factories smart. It is aimed to automate all production steps and to produce at a low cost and in a shorter time with the transition of factories to smart production processes. However, these automatic processes caused many different problems, such as data transfer, security of data, storage of data, processing of data, obtaining meaningful data, etc. In order for all these processes to be carried out properly and to obtain correct results, it is necessary to collect data from different devices, and they should work in harmony and flexibility with each other. This flexibility can be achieved with ontologies. Ontologies provide advantages in many areas by defining types of data, limits of data, and relationships with other data. In addition, ontologies are not only concerned with data, but also with the interaction of all devices with each other. The determination of product quality and the management of business processes can also be provided by ontologies. In this chapter, we discuss Industry 4.0, the processes of Industry 4.0, the difficulties in the implementation and installation of Industry 4.0, the proposed solutions for these difficulties, and the importance of semantic technologies in all these steps. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Archana Patel, Narayan C.
