I. Dünya Savaşı öncesinde Goeben ve Breslau’in Akdeniz’deki faaliyetleri ve Çanakkale’ye gelişleri

Abstract

Goeben ve Breslau gemilerinin I. Dünya Savaşı’nda ve Osmanlı Devleti’nin bu savaşa girmesinde önemli bir yeri vardır. Savaşta oynadıkları rol kadar bu gemilerin Osmanlı Devleti’ne gelişlerinin de ayrı bir hikâyesi bulunmaktadır. Gemilerin Osmanlı Devleti’ne gelişleri öncesinde karıştığı bombalama hadiseleri, İngiliz ve Fransız donanmalarının bu gemilerin eylemlerine karşı aldıkları tavırlar dikkat çekicidir. Bu makale ile Goeben ve Breslau gemilerinin I. Dünya Savaşı’nın arifesindeki faaliyetleri konu edilmiştir. Makalenin kapsamı dışına çıkmamak için gemilerin Osmanlı Devleti’ne gelişlerinden sonraki kısma girilmemiştir. Ağırlık noktası 1914’ün Temmuz ayının sonu ve Ağustos başları olmuştur. Bu iki gemi dışında da İngiliz filosunun Akdeniz’deki pozisyonu, kapasitesi ve gemilerinin özellikleri ile de bir miktar bilgi verilmeye çalışılmıştır. Aynı şekilde Fransız gemileri ve onların Goeben ve Breslau gemilerini önleyici nitelikteki teşebbüslerine yer verilmiştir. Makale Goeben ve Breslau’ı biraz daha yakından tanımak ve Çanakkale’ye gelişlerindeki nedenleri tartışmayı hedeflemektedir.

Goeben and Breslau cruisers are the important points in the World War I and in the entry of Ottoman Empire in this war. As their role in this war, the arrival of these cruisers to the Ottoman Empire has also a different story. Before the arrival of these cruisers to the Ottoman Empire, the incidents involving the bombing of cruisers and the attitudes of British and French navies against the actions of these cruisers are remarkable. The activities of Goeben and Breslau cruisers on the eve of World War I are mentioned with this article. To avoid departing from the scope of this article, the next section of the cruisers' arrival of Ottoman Empire are not mentioned. The focus of article are the end of July and the beginning of August in 1914. Apart from these two cruisers, it is provided to inform about the position and the capacity of British fleet in the Mediterranean and the features of cruisers. Likewise, the French cruisers and their enterprises to prevent Goeben and Breslau cruisers are mentioned in this article. This article aims the recognition closer of Goeben and Breslau cruisers and the causes of the arrival of these cruisers to the Çanakkale.
