Abstract: | Five new compounds p-(4-n-butyl-phenylazo)calix[4]arene (1), p-(4-phenylazophenylazo)calix[4]arene (2), p-(4-acetanilidazo)calix[4]arene (3), p-(N'-2-thiazol-2-ylsulfanylazo)calix[4]arene (4) and p-(2-thiazolazo)calix[4]arene (5) have been synthesized from calix[4]arene by diazo coupling with the corresponding aromatic amines. To elucidate the structures of the compounds elemental analyses, UV-vis, IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectral data have been used. © 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd.
