E: To assess the efficacy of octreotide for reducing postoperative adhesions. STUDY DESIGN: Peritoneal defect was performed to 28 non-pregnant Wistar Albino rats. Animals were divided in to two groups randomly. Octreotide was given intramuscularly to the first group, and placebo was given to the control group. RESULTS: Incidence of postoperative adhesion formation was similar in both groups. Animals treated with octreotide had significantly reduced postoperative adhesion scores when compared with controls (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Treatment of peritoneal defect with octreotide resulted in significant reduction in postoperative adhesion scores.en_US
