Documentation of and Conservation-Restoration Proposal for Mehmet Arslan House in Stratonikeia Eski̇hi̇sar

Abstract

Mehmet Arslan Evi, Stratonikeia'da yer alan sivil mimari örneklerinden biridir. Konumu itibariyle I. Derece Arkeolojik Sit Alanı içerisinde yer almaktadır. Osmanlı dönemine tarihlendirilmektedir. Mehmet Arslan Evi, yığma duvar tekniğinde yapılmış iki katlı olarak inşa edilmiştir. Yapı avlu içerisinde kuzeydoğu köşede konumlandırılmıştır. Yapının fiziksel, kimyasal ve biyolojik bozulmalara maruz kaldığı gözlenmektedir. Bu bozulmalar sonucunda tahribata açık hale gelmiş ve yıkılıp yok olma tehlikesi bulunmaktadır. Yapıdaki belgeleme çalışmaları geleneksel ve ileri belgeleme olmak üzere iki şekilde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Mehmet Arslan Evi'ne, öncelikli olarak koruma prensibiyle yaklaşılmaktadır. Yapının restorasyon önerisi restitüsyon kararları dikkate alınarak hazırlanmıştır. Yürütülen çalışmalar neticesinde yapının rölövesi çizilmiş malzeme kullanımı ile birlikte gözlemlenerek hasar tespiti yapılmıştır. Sözlü kaynaklar kullanılarak ve yapının çevresindeki benzer dönem tarihi evlerden yola çıkılarak analojisi yöntemi kullanılarak restitüsyon önerisi yapılmıştır. Bu bağlamda yapının geçmiş dönemlerde uğradığı müdahaleler ele alınmıştır. Onarım sürecine geçildiğinde en az müdahale ve en iyi sonucu alma ile ulusal ve uluslararası koruma ilkelerine uygun olarak müdahale kararları belirlenmiştir. Genel olarak özgünlüğü bozulmadan günümüze gelmiş olması ile birlikte geri döndürülebilir olmasını mümkün kılmaktadır.

Mehmet Arslan House is one of the examples of civil architecture in Stratonikeia. It is located within the First-Degree Archaeological Site of the ancient city. It dates back to the Ottoman period. Mehmet Arslan House was built with two floors using masonry wall technique. The structure is positioned in the northeast corner of the lot. It is observed that the structure has been subject to physical, chemical and biological deterioration. As a result of these deteriorations, it has become vulnerable to destruction and is in danger of collapsing and disappearing. Documentation studies on the structure were carried out in two ways: traditional and advanced documentation. Mehmet Arslan House is primarily approached with the principle of conservation. The restoration proposal of the structure was prepared by taking into account the restitution decisions. As a result of the studies carried out, the building's survey was drawn and the damage was determined by observing the use of materials. A restitution proposal was made using oral sources and the analogy method based on similar historical houses around the structure. In this context, the interventions that the structure has undergone in the past were discussed. When the conservation process was started, intervention decisions were determined in accordance with national and international protection principles with the least intervention and the optimal result. In general, it makes it possible to be reversible as its originality has survived to the present day without deterioration.
