According to recent studies, there has been a renewed focus on developing biopolymers using components that come from natural sources. Natural fibers reduce weight, cost, and CO2 emissions while also being more recyclable and requiring less foreign oil. Natural fiber-reinforced biopolymers play a significant role in many facets of sustainability. Polylactide acid, or PLA, is a polymer derived naturally. Researchers have recently focused on natural fiber-reinforced PLA-based biocomposites to compete with non-renewable goods. Because of their biodegradable qualities, biocomposite materials can take the place of other composites. This chapter reviewed the antibacterial, soil burial, and biodegradability of PLA-based biocomposites and bionanocomposites. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.en_US
