Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent among pregnant women and is linked to a range of adverse complications, including gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM). Although the data investigating the relationship between vitamin D levels and GDM is large, there is inconsistency. Beside this, there is no consensus among researchers regarding the impact of vitamin D supplementation in decreasaing the incidence of GDM and improving the glycemic control and other metabolic parameters. Although existence of controversies, as vitamin D supplementation would be a low-cost nutritional intervention, the potential for reduction in GDM could be realised in both developed and developing nations with promise of improved pregnancy outcomes. © 2020 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
