Determining Intellectual Property Trends in Telemedicine

Abstract

Bu tez, biyomedikal mühendisliği alanındaki gelişmelerin ve özellikle uzaktan teşhis (tele-tıp) teknolojilerinin fikri mülkiyet eğilimlerini belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Günümüzde artan yaşam süresi, çevresel etkiler ve hızla büyüyen nüfus gibi faktörler, biyomedikal alanında büyük ilerlemelere yol açmaktadır. Özellikle COVID-19 salgını gibi zorlu dönemler evde sağlık hizmetlerinin önemini artırmıştır. Bu tez, biyomedikal alandaki gelişmelerin temel nedenlerini ele almakta ve fikri mülkiyet eğilimlerini incelemektedir. Veri toplama aşamasında, Avrupa Patent Ofisi (EPO) tarafından sağlanan patent başvurusu verileri kullanılmıştır. Patent başvuruları IPC sınıfları temelinde gruplandırılacak ve teknik alanlara olan ilgi değişimleri analiz edilecektir. Ayrıca, literatür taraması ile biyomedikal alandaki fikri mülkiyet ve uzaktan teşhis konusundaki mevcut bilgiler derinlemesine incelenmiştir. Verilerin analizi, nitel ve nicel yöntemlerle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Literatür taraması sonucunda elde edilen bilgiler içerik analizi ile kategorilere ayrılmış ve patent verileri istatistiksel analizlerle değerlendirilmiştir. Bu analizler, biyomedikal alandaki fikri mülkiyet eğilimlerini, inovasyon yönünü ve tele-tıp alanındaki gelişmelerin etkisini aydınlatmayı hedeflemektedir. Çalışmanın sonuçları, biyomedikal alandaki fikri mülkiyet eğilimleri ve tele-tıp teknolojilerinin geleceğe yansımaları hakkında bilgi sağlayacaktır. Bu sonuçlar literatürle karşılaştırılarak tartışılmış ve fikri mülkiyetin biyomedikal inovasyonunun yönlendirilmesindeki rolü vurgulanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, bu tez biyomedikal alandaki inovasyonun fikri mülkiyet eğilimlerini belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Uzaktan teşhis teknolojileri gibi önemli alanlardaki fikri mülkiyet trendlerinin anlaşılması, gelecekteki araştırma ve geliştirme çalışmalarını şekillendirecektir. Bu çalışma, biyomedikal mühendisliği alanında ilerlemeyi destekleyerek toplum sağlığını ve teknolojik yenilikleri teşvik etmeyi hedeflemektedir.

This thesis aims to determine the intellectual property trends in the field of biomedical engineering, particularly focusing on telemedicine technologies. Factors such as increasing life expectancy, environmental impacts, and rapid population growth have led to significant advancements in the biomedical field. Challenging periods like the COVID-19 pandemic have underscored the importance of home healthcare services. This thesis delves into the fundamental reasons behind developments in the biomedical field and examines the trends in intellectual property. During the data collection phase, patent application data provided by the European Patent Office (EPO) is utilized. Patent applications are categorized based on IPC classes, and shifts in interests across technical domains are analysed. Additionally, through literature review, existing information on intellectual property and telemedicine within the biomedical field is thoroughly examined. The analysis of data is conducted using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Information acquired from the literature review is categorized through content analysis, while patent data is evaluated through statistical analyses. These analyses aim to shed light on the trends in intellectual property, directions of innovation, and impacts of telemedicine developments within the biomedical field. The outcomes of this study will provide insights into the trends of intellectual property within the biomedical field and the implications of telemedicine technologies for the future. These findings are discussed in relation to existing literature, emphasizing the role of intellectual property in guiding biomedical innovation. In conclusion, this thesis strives to determine the intellectual property trends in the domain of biomedical innovation, particularly in the context of telemedicine technologies. Understanding trends in intellectual property in crucial domains such as telemedicine will shape future research and development efforts.
