Deniz kaplumbağa araştırma kurtarma rehabilitasyon ve bilglendirme merkezinin bakım havuzlarının yerleştirilmesi

Abstract

The increased number of injured sea turtles in Turkey and the growing public demand for treatment and rehabilitation of injured or sick turtles dictated the need for a Sea Turtle Rescue Center. The Dalyan Municipality and the Minister of Environment and Forestry together with Pamukkale University, the first rescue center was established in Dalyan(Ortaca-Muğla). This Center is also serving as a sea turtle public awareness facility near the main nesting beaches in Turkey. The Sea Turtle Research, rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (DEKAMER) was officially established by the Higher Educational Council of Turkey. The logo of the Centre was also designed. The care and rehabilitation of the sea turtle cannot ignore specific scientific competence. A centre should be either associated with a University or a Research Institute or should be under the direct supervision of external experts. The scientific qualification and experience of the Centre’s staff is also a fundamental prerequisite. There are other sea turtle rescue centers in the Mediterranean and this is the first one in Turkey. There were fouteen injured turtle cases at this Center and 8 of which were released in 2009 and two to go in 2010.

Bu projede, Deniz Kaplumbağaları Araştırma Kurtarma ve Rehabilitasyon Merkezi (DEKAMER)’nin Dalyan(Ortaca-Muğla)’da oluşturma çalışmalarına başlanmıştır. Türkiye’de ilk kez böyle bir merkez, Çevre ve Orman Bakanlığı Doğa Koruma ve Milli Parklar Genel Müdürlüğü, Özel Çevre Koruma Kurum Başkanlığı, Dalyan Belediyesi ve Üniversitemiz ile imzalanan protokol çerçevesinde faaliyete geçirilmiştir. DEKAMER aynı zamanda YÖK’den de onaylanarak resmi bir araştırma merkezi olarak resmen kurulmuş ve logosu dizayn edilmiştir. Bu projede, protokol çerçevesinde kurulmuş olan Deniz Kaplumbağaları Araştırma ve Rehabilitasyon Merkezi’nde Yaralı deniz kaplumbağalarının tedavisi ve rehabilitasyonu hem yaralı bir canlının tedavisi yanında, hem de halkın ve ziyaretçilerin bilgilendirilmesi ve farkındalık oluşturulması için kaplumbağaların bakımlarının yapılacağı 7 adet havuzun yerleştirilmesi yapılmıştır. Bu merkez dahilinde 2009 yılı içerisinde 14 adet yaralı deniz kaplumbağasının tedavisi yapılmıştır. Bunlardan 8 adeti tekrar denize bırakılmış olup, iki tanesi de 2010 yılı içerisinde doğal ortamına bırakılacaktır.
