Abstract: Needle-punched nonwoven composites were produced from three layers hemp and/or polylactide (PLA) webs. Their sound barrier performance was analyzed in 1 kHz - 6.5 kHz frequency range. Sound transfer function mahnitudes of the samples were measured by Clemson-Boston Differential Sound Insulation Tester. Effects of material parameters such as fiber type and size, and fabric structure were studied. A positive effect of fiber fineness and composite structure vs. homogeneous fabric structure was observed for certain frequencies. Change in layering sequence made a difference in sound barrier performance.
