Kız ve erkek hemşirelik öğrencilerinin pediatri hemşiresinin rolleri ve pediatri klinik uygulamasına yönelik deneyimleri ve algıları

Abstract

This study was planned to be qualitative with in order to determine experiences and perceptions of male and female nursing students about the roles of pediatric nurses and clinical practices. The study sample consisted of 27 students who completed the course of pediatric nursing successfully, in a health high school in Turkey. Focus group method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in this study. Sociodemographic form and semi-structured interview form were used for data collecting. Interviews during the focus groups have been recorded on a recorder. Interview data was evaluated with thematic content analysis. Students’ opinions have been classified as three themes which are the roles of a pediatric nurse, pediatric clinical practice experiences and perceptions, and career objectives. Findings of this research revealed that pediatric nursing course had positive effects on students’ perception of pediatric nurse’s roles; effects of positive and negative experiences, occurring between students and child patients, their relatives and other health workers in a clinic, on their perceptions; and that most of the students did not want to work as pediatric nurses after graduating. Students didn’t want to be pediatric nurses since they think that pediatric patients require more responsibility, are more difficult to deal with and an emotional burden comes along with them and also because of the male gender factor. In order to provide the best learning environment for students; cooperation between the school staff and the clinical staff should be strengthened, training skills of educators should be improved, the number of trainers should be increased and the students should be supported in clinical environment.

Bu çalışma, kız ve erkek hemşirelik öğrencilerinin pediatri hemşiresinin rolleri ve pediatri hemşireliği klinik uygulamasına yönelik deneyimleri ve algılarını belirlemek amacıyla niteliksel olarak planlanmıştır. Türkiye’de bir Sağlık Yüksekokulu’nda okuyan, pediatri hemşireliği dersini başarı ile tamamlamış 27 öğrenci araştırmanın örneklemini oluşturmuştur. Bu araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden odak grup görüşmesi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak tanıtıcı bilgi formu ve yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Odak grup görüşmeleri sırasında konuşmalar ses kayıt cihazına kaydedilmiştir. Görüşmeye ilişkin veriler tematik içerik analizi yöntemi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada öğrencilerin görüşleri pediatri hemşiresinin rolleri, pediatri klinik uygulamasına yönelik deneyimler ve algılar ve kariyer hedefleri olmak üzere üç tema altında sınıflandırılmıştır. Bu araştırmada bulgular pediatri hemşiresinin rollerini algılayışlarında pediatri hemşireliği dersinin olumlu etkileri olduğunu, öğrencilerin klinikte çocuk hasta, yakınları, sağlık çalışanları ve eğitici ile yaşadıkları olumlu ve olumsuz deneyimlerin algıları üzerindeki etkilerini ve öğrencilerin çoğunluğunun mezun olduktan sonra pediatri hemşiresi olarak çalışmak istemediğini ortaya koymuştur. Öğrenciler klinik deneyimleri sonucu çocuk hastanın daha fazla sorumluluk gerektirdiği, daha zor olması, duygusal yük getirdiğini düşünmeleri ve cinsiyet faktörü nedeniyle pediatri hemşiresi olmak istememektedir. Öğrenciler için en uygun öğrenme ortamını sağlamak amacıyla okul personeli ve klinik personeli arasındaki işbirliği arttırılmalı, eğitici becerileri geliştirilmeli, sayısı arttırılmalı ve öğrenciler klinik ortamda desteklenmelidir.
