Abstract: Over the past few decades there have been many developments in photovoltaic panel components and changes also at photovoltaic panel usage and panel locations. Because of the increase in photovoltaic panel efficiencies, while decreasing costs, photovoltaic panel applications are more common in recent years. Photovoltaic panels don't harm environment while they produce electricity, they are silent and do not require moving components. The present work introduces historical development of photovoltaic panels, the place of photovoltaic panels in renewable energy resources, classification of factors that affect photovoltaic systems' efficiency. Historical developments of photovoltaic system components explained and every component's effect on photovoltaic system efficiency examined. Finally a cost ignored photovoltaic system with maximum efficiency suggested. © 2013 IEEE.
