    Investigation of the Reparative and Regenerative Effects of Human Adipose Tissue Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Epidermal Cells Exposed to UVB Ray

    Objective: To investigate the regenerative effects of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) in immortalized human keratinocyte cells (HaCaT) exposed to ultraviolet B (UVB) rays. Materials and Methods: Epidermal cells were interacted with UVB rays. Then, treatment was applied to ADMSC mediums prepared in different concentrations. Cells that did not receive UVB light were included in the study as a control. Results: With the application of human adipose tissue mesenchymal stem cells to HaCaT cells with different concentrations of media prepared, cell viability increased in both cells that received UVB radiation and those that did not. It has been observed that the said increases are more pronounced, especially in cells that have received UVB rays, reaching the maximum value at 100%, which is the highest stem cell medium concentration. ADMSC medium also had an increasing effect on the migration of UVB (+) cells. In UVB (+) cells, decreased levels of myeloid cell leukemia 1 protein (Mc1-1) and phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated kinases (p-ERK 1/2) and dose-proportional increases were observed after treatment with stem cell medium. Conclusion: It has been determined that some factors in the ADMSC medium, especially in keratinocytes that have received UVB rays, positively support proliferation and show reparative and rejuvenating functions.

    Tobacco use and related factors among Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine Freshers

    Objective: Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the world. The prevalence of smoking among medical students in Turkey ranged from 11.8% to 44.2%. The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with smoking among Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine freshers.

    Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Birinci Sınıf Öğrencilerinde Sigara Kullanımı ve İlişkili Faktörler

    Amaç: Sigara dünyada önlenebilir ölüm nedenlerinin başında gelmektedir. Türkiye'de tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin sigara içme oranı %11,8 ile %44,2 arasında değişmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi birinci sınıf öğrencilerinde, sigara kullanımı ve sigara ile ilişkili faktörlerin belirlenmesidir.Gereç ve Yöntemler: Araştırma kesitsel bir çalışmadır. Verilerin toplanmasında 22 sorudan oluşan anket kullanılmıştır. Tanımlayıcı veriler yüzde ile gösterilmiştir. Ortanca, minimum ve maksimum değerleri verilmiştir. Analitik değerlendirmede kikare testi kullanılmıştır. Tip 1 hata düzeyi ?=0,05 olarak alınmıştır.Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan öğrenci sayısı 188'dir. Öğrencilerin %55,9'u kadındır. Öğrencilerin yaşlarının ortanca değeri 19'dur (minimum: 17, maksimum: 22). Öğrencilerin %24,8'i (n=46) yaşamlarının herhangi bir döneminde sigara kullandığını belirtmiştir. Öğrencilerin %10,8'i düzenli sigara içtiğini, %7,6'sı ara sıra sigara içtiğini, %6,4'ü sigarayı bıraktığını belirtmiştir. Sigarayı bırakmayı düşünen 16 kişiden %18,7'si bırakma yöntemlerini bilmemektedir. Öğrencilerin %78,3'ü sigara paketlerinin üzerindeki resim ve sloganlardan etkilenmediğini belirtmektedir. Öğrencilerin %46,1'i arkadaş ortamında bulunmanın sigara tüketimini artırdığını belirtmiştir. Bununla birlikte arkadaş çevresi sigarayı bırakmada destek olanlar arasında %75 ile en önemli gruptur.Sonuç: Tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinde her beş öğrenciden biri halen sigara kullanmaktadır. İleriki sınıflarda bu oranın daha yüksek olması beklenmektedir. İlk sınıflardan itibaren korunma ve bırakma konusunda destek önemlidir. Düzenli sigara kullananların yanında, ara sıra kullanan ve bırakmayı düşünen kitlelere yönelik çalışmalar da yapılmalıdır.
