Abstract
Günümüzde vejetaryen ve vegan sayısı özellikle gençler arasında hızla artmaktadır. Araştırmada vejetaryen ve vegan bireylerin bu beslenme ve yaşam tarzını tercih etme nedenleri, sosyal çevre ile etkileşimleri, ülke şartlarında sürdürülebilirliğine ilişkin deneyimleri ve bazı toplumsal konulara bakış açıları tanımlanarak bu artışın nedenlerinin ortaya konması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma 13 vejetaryen ve vegan katılımcı ile nitel araştırma teknikleri kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde SPSS ve içerik analizinden yararlanılmıştır.
Katılımcıların çoğunluğu; etik sebepler ve hayvan refahı nedeni ile vejetaryen ve vegan olduklarını, ailelerin başlangıçta bu kararlarına karşı çıktığını, sosyal çevreleri konusunda seçici davranmaya başladıklarını, Türkiye’de yeterince destek olmadığını, coğrafyanın ve etnik koşullarının uygun olduğunu belirtmiştir. Vejetaryen ve vegan bireylerin toplumsal konulara bakış açılarına bakıldığında ise toplumsal cinsiyet algısında et yemenin maskülenlikle ve güç sahibi olmak ile ilişkilendirildiği, dini inanışlarının etkisi olmadığı, ezilene ve sömürüye karşı çıkma ile ilişkilendirdikleri toplumsal hareketleri desteklediklerini, tüketim toplumunun bakış açısının olumlu ve olumsuz olabileceği, türcülük ile ilişkisi olduğu, gelişen teknolojinin ve sosyal medyanın olumlu etkisinin olduğu katılımcıların çoğunluğu tarafından ifade edilmiştir. Veriler araştırmanın teorik kısmında belirtilen konular ile ilişkilendirilerek analizleri yapılmıştır.
Today, the number of vegetarians and vegans is increasing rapidly, especially among young people. Within the scope of the research, it was aimed to present the reasons for this increase by defining the reasons why vegetarian and vegan individuals prefer this diet and lifestyle, their interactions with the social environment, their experiences in regards to the sustainability of this lifestyles in the country, and their perspectives on some societal issues. The research was conducted with 13 vegetarian and vegan participants using qualitative research methods. SPSS and content analysis were used in the interpretation of data. The majority of the participants stated that the reasons for becoming vegetarian or vegan were ethical reasons and animal welfare, that their families initially opposed, that they started to be selective about their social environment, that there was not enough support in the Turkey, and that the geographical and ethnic conditions were convenient for this lifestyle. When the perspectives of participants on societal issues were analyzed, the majority of the participants expressed that, meat consumption was associated with masculinity and power, that religious beliefs did not have any influence on vegetarianism or veganism, that they supported social movements, that the perspective of the consumer society could be positive and negative, that vegetarianism and veganism were associated with speciesism, and that developing technologies and social media had a positive impact. The data were analyzed in relation to the topics mentioned in the theoretical part of the research.
