Theodosius Döneminde Roma İmparatorluğu

Abstract

İmparator Theodosius modern Avrupa tarihinin kurucu isimleri arasında önemli bir yere sahiptir, çünkü Constantinus döneminde Roma İmparatorluğu’nda meşru bir temele oturan Hıristiyanlık, onun çağında resmi dine dönüşmüştür. Modern Avrupa uygarlığı Hıristiyanlıktan bağımsız düşünülemeyeceği için, Theodosius’un Hıristiyanlığın nihai zaferindeki rolü de önemsiz değildir. Bu çerçevede bu tezi hazırlamamızın temel amacı Theodosius döneminde din ve devlet entegrasyonunun nasıl gerçekleştiğini ortaya koymaktır. Bu çalışma, kaynaklar ve temel problemlere işaret eden giriş bölümü dışında dört ana bölümden meydana gelmektedir. İlk bölüm, Theodosius öncesi dördüncü yüzyılda Hıristiyanlığın Roma İmparatorluğu içerisindeki yerini ortaya koyma teşebbüsüdür. Bunun amacı Theodosius’un nasıl bir imparatorluk ve din siyaseti mirası aldığını göstermektir. İkinci bölümde Theodosius döneminde paganlık ve Yahudiliğin durumu ele alınmaktadır. Üçüncü bölümde Hıristiyan İmparator Theodosius’un kilise politikası ele alınmaktadır. Dördüncü ve son bölüm ise Theodosius dönemi üzerine genel gözlemler içermektedir.

The emperor Theodosius was one of the few key figures in the foundation of the modern Europe, because Christianity became the official religion of the Roman empire in his reign. As the modern European civilisation cannot be considered without the decisive contribution of Christianity, the supportive role of Theodosius in the victory of Christianity is still worth of looking at closely. Therefore the main idea behind this theses is to offer an analysis for the integration of Christian religion and the state in the age of Theodosius the Great. This work is shaped by four chapters. In the introductory chapter I provide an observation on sources and theoretical frame of the work. In the first main chapter I take the issue of the story of Christiaity in the fourth century before Theodosius to show how a legacy the emperor received from his predecessors. In the second main chapter the imperial relationships with the other religion in the Christianizing the fourth century. In the third chapter I deal with the ecclesiastical politics and religious developments during the reign of Theodosius. The final chapter consist of some observations on the reign of Theodosius.
