Abstract: This study aims at investigating the views of Erasmus students studying Turkish in Turkey on the challenges of their learning processes. The participants of the study were 25 Erasmus exchange students from different countries of Europe who came to a public Turkish university for one term or two. Their views on the challenges of learning Turkish were collected through a list of open ended questions and a face to face semi-structured interview. The content analysis was used to analyse the transcribed data. Their stated challenges were discussed under the headings of (1) structural challenges, (2) cultural challenges, and (3) exposure challenges. The findings have some implications for current Turkish courses and further research. (C) 2014 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
