Abstract: The town of cardak is located on the ancient road that goes along the Great Menderes Valley. Today, cardak's connection to East is carried out by the Afyon-Isparta-Burdur free way and to West is by the Denizli-Aydin-Izmir free way. The town belongs to the Lakes region in the Western Taurus and it reflects the geographical characteristics of that region. After the Roman administration cardak was added to the Anatolian Seljuk State in 1207. Under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatiirk, after the beginning of the National Struggle and opening of the Grand Turkish National Assembly, breaking away from Aydin, Denizli became an independent sanjak on May 31, 1920. Meanwhile, cardak, with some other residential places in the Hanbat Lowland, had remained within the borders of the city of Afyon belonging to the town of Dinar. Even though cardak was a part of Afyon officially, because of its geographical location, social and economic relations cardak had always its face turned towards Denizli For that reason it was joined to Denizli by the Sukru Saracoglu administration on December 12, 1944. Together with the surrounding villages it was first joined to the township of Honaz; later on, it joined to the township of Bozkurt which was more centrally located among other residential areas in the Hanbat Lowland. However, because of its own characteristics cardak grew gradually and became a town of its own on April 1, 1958.
