(Ibn Sina Trust, 2025-07-25) Bakan, Gulcan; Sercekus, A. K. Pinar; Sercekus Ak, Pınar
Objective HIV infection is considered a chronic disease and provision of appropriate care for people living with HIV is prioritized globally. The aim of this study is to describe experiences and coping strategies of people living with HIV in Turkey based on their blog posts. Materials and Methods The study has a qualitative design. Two hundred and fifty-three posts in a blog were examined. Data were collected by using document analysis. Results Findings were categorized into four themes: being diagnosed, difficulties experienced, coping and gains. They had some negative feelings after being diagnosed. While some participants reported to get sufficient support from their families, partners, friends and health professionals, others said that their friends did not want to meet up with them and that their families rejected them. Religious, beliefs, positive thinking and blog using by PLWH were found to be coping strategies. The blog users had a fear about transmitting the disease to other people and about possibility of their friends and relatives' being diagnosed as HIV. They had some gains such as positive effects on their opinions about the value of life. Conclusions This qualitative study was the first to explore experience of PLWH in Turkish culture. It is of importance to determine what PLWH from different cultures experience to offer appropriate nursing care. Nurses need to be aware of the effect of blogs on patients.

The Impact of Core Belief Disruption on PTSD Symptoms in Cancer Patients: The Mediating and Moderating Roles of Intrusion and Avoidance Behavior
(Springer, 2025-07-01) Ozturk, Fatma Ozgun; Gur, Ganime Can
Cancer is a life-threatening illness that, beyond its physical consequences, can lead to significant psychological outcomes, including symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While core belief disruption has been linked to PTSD, the pathways underlying this relationship remain underexplored. This study aimed to examine the association between disruptions in core beliefs and PTSD symptoms in cancer patients, with a particular focus on the mediating role of intrusion and the moderating role of avoidance behavior. A total of 204 patients receiving oncology treatment participated in the study. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Core Beliefs Scale, and the Impact of Events Scale-Revised. PROCESS macro for SPSS was used for the analysis: Model 4 for simple mediation and Model 5 for moderated mediation. Findings revealed that disruptions in core beliefs were significantly associated with both intrusion and hyperarousal symptoms (p < 0.01). Moreover, intrusion was found to fully mediate the relationship between core belief disruptions and hyperarousal. Avoidance behavior moderated this mediating relationship, such that the direct effect of belief disruption on hyperarousal was significant at low and high levels of avoidance, but not at moderate levels. These findings underscore the importance of addressing both cognitive disruptions and avoidance behaviors in trauma-informed interventions for cancer patients. Accordingly, the development of structured, personalized psychoeducational and therapeutic support programs is recommended to enhance psychological resilience and improve the overall quality of life in cancer survivors.

(W B Saunders Co-elsevier inc, 2021-10) Yigitoglu, Gulay Tasdemir; Yilmaz, Atakan; Yilmaz, Halis
Background: The Covid-19 pandemic has forced healthcare staff into an unprecedented situation, such as making tough decisions and practising under enormous pressure. Aim: This study was designed to investigate the effect of Covid-19 on sleep quality, anxiety and depression in healthcare staff at a tertiary hospital. Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study recruited healthcare staff working at a tertiary hospital. Those who had given their informed consent participated in this study between April 17 and May 17, 2020. Data were collected using the introductory information form, the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS). The data were then analyzed on the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) v.24. Results: The mean scores of the respondents derived from the HADS-Anxiety (HADS-A) and HADS-Depression (HADS-D) scales were 7.89 +/- 4.60 and 7.22 +/- 4.13, respectively. Their depression levels were established to be at risk, though their anxiety levels were not. The mean PSQI score turned out to be 8.42 +/- 2.30 for the participants, most of whom (92.9%) experienced poor sleep quality. Total sleep quality of the respondents exhibited a moderate positive correlation with HADS-A scores and a weak positive correlation with HADS-D scores (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Our major conclusion from the collected data is that healthcare staff suffered from poor sleep quality, and that their depression levels, but not anxiety levels, were at risk. Providing appropriate information about the health care of patients diagnosed with Covid-19 as well as offering regular psychoeducation-psychological support services and resting areas can reduce the susceptibility of healthcare staff to anxiety and depression and improve their overall sleep quality.
