Abstract: Orthopedic biomaterials are used in replacement of joints or bones that are damaged by a disease such as osteoporosis or fixation of broken bones. Majority of these materials are metals. Non-metallic materials can be separated into three groups as ceramics, polymers and composites. In this study, the types, fundamental properties, advantages and disadvantages of biomaterials used in the production of orthopedic implants are summarized.
