Abstract: This study investigated the reading/viewing behaviors and learning outcomes of deaf/hearing-impaired participants when exposed to technical and plain language online training materials. The effectiveness of augmented reality (AR)-based mobile training content supported with technical sign language was evaluated using a randomized pre-test/post-test control group design. The AR-based mobile training contents were found to be more effective in enhancing learning outcomes for deaf/hearing-impaired factory workers. Participants reported a strong understanding and usefulness of the mobile application, which included pictures, technical sign language videos, 3D machine elements, and information texts. The findings indicated that the accessible and digital training materials improved the learning experiences of deaf employees. The study contributes to designing communication-effective educational materials that consider the unique needs and preferences of deaf/hearing-impaired individuals in the metal industry.
